Sedation

No matter what type of procedure you’re visiting us for, we want to make sure we provide you with a comfortable and pain-free experience. Almost all of our procedures are administered with a local anesthetic, meaning that a local anesthetic will be used to numb the affected area of your mouth. However, for more extensive procedures or for those with extreme dental anxiety, we also have IV sedation available. It is our goal that you feel no pain, discomfort, or anxiety during your procedure. Please be sure to communicate any specific fears or anxieties to us at your consultation prior to your treatment.

Sedation Options

Below are the sedation options available to you here at Littleton Implants & Periodontics:

  • Intravenous (IV) sedation – Intravenous sedation is administered through an IV, and you may drift in and out of sleep throughout the procedure. We will also administer oxygen and keep a close eye on your vitals the entire time. A specialized anesthetist who is trained and licensed to perform IV sedation, will administer and monitor the sedation. You will likely not remember any of the procedure and may have difficulty remembering the rest of the day.
  • Nitrous oxide analgesia – Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is breathed in through a mask placed over your nose. This will induce a feeling of detached calm, easing your fears and keeping you relaxed. You will be awake, but stress-free.

Please note that IV sedation will require a ride to and from our office by a responsible adult.

Let us know of any questions, concerns, or anxieties you may have regarding your dental treatment and the sedation options available to you. Your comfort and confidence in your procedure is important to us.
